USS Alabama/Fort Gaines Trip
Time & Location
About the Event
We are planning on leaving by 1 PM on Friday, January 24 and renting a sprinter van for the trip down so everyone does not need to drive; though some may really want/need to drive their own vehicle - we can rent two vans if needed they seat 12 with a small space for luggage.
Friday night we have a block of rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn Mobile East Bay/Daphne and it has an indoor pool for the boys to enjoy so bring a swim suit for sure. Details are Expected this am about a group rate so wait till this afternoon to call-If the hotel sells out before you can give them your credit card, there are several hotels clustered together in the vicinity.

Saturday morning we will head to Fort Gaines on Dauphin island for a tour of this historic fort that protects the entrance to the bay. Lucky for us Mardi Gras is celebrated a few weeks early on Dauphin island and coincides with our visit-so we will get to enjoy some of the festivities while visiting the fort. We can try for some beach time but please be prepared -the fort visit can be cold and windy or picture perfect for sunscreen-after our adventure we can return to the hotel and pick up our gear for the battleship-
Check in for the USS Alabama is 3-4 pm and will give us time to get your gear stored and enjoy the area before sundown. We have to check in together so if you are thinking about driving down Saturday morning 3pm is when you need to arrive. There is room for both male and females of all ages to stay in separate compartments on the battleship so if siblings or spouses schedules are a part of the equation options are available-
Cost per person $60 - payable by Venmo, check and possibly on our website. Your payment is the signup, first come first serve. ALSO without a paper copy of your health form for us to hold onto and a signed release waiver you cannot go. So please don’t send an email with your form as the van does not have a printer ;).
Pack covers fort admission and Battleship overnight package. Friday- hotel and dinner are on your own but hopefully together as a pack Saturday- breakfast probably included with hotel and lunch will be at a local sandwich shop near the fort. Dinner Saturday night and breakfast Sunday is preselected by the battleship cook and included with our battleship package. Special dietary needs will likely require you to bring the food that best suits your needs.
Lastly- we need to know who is planning on driving down with their own vehicle Friday and who will be able to leave early Friday. Also if you have to depart Saturday am. Considering Friday, the van cannot carry both scouts and their gear so a caravan will be somewhat necessary.
