02/02/10    SCOUT DAY AT THE LEGISLATURE
The Alabama Legislature will recognize the Third Annual Scout Day and as we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting  on Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Alabama Boy Scouts will open the House session by presenting the colors and then a Proclamation will be read and presented to the Boy Scouts proclaiming “Boy Scout Day”. All Cub and Boy Scouts are encouraged to attend this special “Scout Day” at Alabama’s State Capitol.  Click here for more information.

7:00 to 8:30 at Central Baptist Church (2801 Highway 31 South, Decatur, AL.  Remember Leaders should try to attend at least 4 roundtables a year.

02/06/10    PINEWOOD DERBY DAYS DEMO
The Dremel Pinewood Derby® Days program is an annual collaborative effort amongst Dremel, Lowe’s and the Boy Scouts of America that aims to provide you, the pinewood derby enthusiast, with a single source for all of the materials and know-how you need to create a winning derby car you can be proud of – regardless of your skill level. Dremel, Lowe’s and the BSA are committed to make your Pinewood Derby® a success!
Building a top-notch derby car has never been easier or more enjoyable. Take a look around this site for car-building ideas and speed tips, help in designing a stunning derby car, and the supplies and tools you need to complete a one-of-a-kind car that is truly “built for speed”!
11 am to 1 pm.  Please check with your local Lowe’s Store before attending this event.

02/07/10    SCOUT SUNDAY
Each Scout unit to work with their charter partner to celebrate Scouting’s 100th year of serving America on Scout Sunday/Sabbath around the February 7th timeframe.  Scouts should attend service in full uniform.
1.         Scouting display in the church for all members/guests to see
2.         Religious organizations ask their Scouts to attend their service to be recognized.
3.         Scouts help with ushering during the religious service.
4.         Scouts help as greeters at the front door prior to the religious service.  Help with umbrellas if it is raining, etc.
5.         Religious leader during the service mentions Scouting and have their Scouts stand to be recognized. Also ask all in the congregation to stand who has had a Scouting background.
6.         Local Scouts help with local religious service in other ways—with offering, etc.
7.         Scouting report in the church bulletin that day.
8.         Unit charter (official charter) presented during the church service.

9.         Flag Ceremony

02/07/10    PACK COMMITTEE MEETING
2 PM in the family Life Center at Isom’s Chapel.  This is where the pack committee works on upcoming events.  Parents/Guardians welcome.

BSA Centennial Commemorative Coin
Commemorative Coin ($1 Dollar Silver Coin) celebrating 100 Years of Scouting should be available for sale.

02/13/10    PACK 236 PINEWOOD DERBY CLINIC
Don’t have any tools, need the body of your pinewood Derby Car cut to shape.  Pack 236 will be putting on a clinic to help get the boys up and running.  More information to follow.

02/13/10    DIXIE CHALLENGE
Shelby County Shooting Sports Association would like to announce the 2010 Dixie Challenge.  The match consists of 3 events:
1.        3x20 CMP Cup Air Rifle Match w/Final
2.        Progressive Position Pistol Match (PPP)
3.         4 Position BB Gun Match w/Final.  The BB gun match will also serve as the NRA Alabama State Championship.

02/20/10    CUB SHOOTING SPORTS TRAINING
Mark your calendar for February 20, 2010.  Mike Read will conduct a Cub Shooting Sports Training at Camp Sequoyah from 9:00-4:30.  Anyone needing to be trained to operate a range at Day Camp or other Council-level event is welcome to attend this training.  Materials will be provided.  Bring a bag lunch and come learn how to safely operate a shooting range so that the Cubs can have a fun and safe experience.  For more information contact the Clayton Scout Service Center at 205-970-0251.

We have a unique opportunity to be a part of history.  Now is the time to register for one of the largest camping experiences with the Greater Alabama Council to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting.
When:  February 26 – 28, 2009
Where:  Camp Comer
Cost:  $10 before January 15, 2010 and $15 after.
Who:  All interested Boy Scouts within the Greater Alabama Council, Webelos Scouts, and Adult Leaders interested in providing a wonderful camp experience.
